Another affidavit,
Another motion,
Another wait,
Another miscarriage of justice.
Trying to protect her,
I become the villain
in his story.
Trying to protect her,
I become bankrupt
in my story.
Empty of hope,
Empty of funds,
Empty of feeling.
I am numb.
The denial,
laying on my desk.
I don't understand; I followed them,
the rules.
He abandoned them at first glance.
Yet, her life is in the balance.

Every other weekend,
anxiety and fear consume me.
Waiting for her return,
Waiting for the shoe to drop.
I'm helpless,
just like I was back then.
The weight of it crushes me,
Again.
